Isla Mujeres Al Dia
IM al Dia has photos & a caption: The City provided the traditional celebration yesterday morning for the working mothers of the municipal government.

Noti Isla Mujeres
Noti IM has a photo of a golf cart of the rental agency Gomar II that broke in half when going over the speed bump by the Whale Shark monument yesterday.

IM Noticias
IM Noticias reports: A boat and its crew, who are members of the cooperative Patria y Progreso, were detained by the Navy for about two and a half hours for having caught five dogfish shark, which are currently out of season.  The three fishermen, who are known as  Cahúm, La Vaca and Venado, said the five small sharks  ("cazón o tiburones pequeños") were accidentally caught on their longline, and they decided not to get rid of them.
The boat, La Guajira IV" was detained around 10am at the point of capture and towed to the Navy pier. There was a discussion between the fishing authorities, the Navy, and the administration of the Patria & Progreso Fishing Cooperative, and it was determined that since the capture occurred incidentally, there were no grounds for assigning responsibility to the fishermen.
On the other hand, two irregularities were detected because the boat didn't have a certified copy of the fishing permit, and the Harbor Master had not been notified that the outboard motor had been replaced, which was previously 90HP and now is 150HP.
The boat and its crew were released, but now the administration of the cooperative must resolve these issues with the port authorities.

TVIM reports that 300 helmets were given to high school students of Colegio Bachilleres, and teaching and administrative staff. Over 1500 have been distributed so far. VIDEO

Boat detained with five sharks on board

This article has the same information that is translated above, noting that an agent the National Fishing Commission (CONAPESCA) was involved with the discussion, and that the boat is in the name of Raziel Rivero, the president of the Patria and Progreso fishing cooperative. The shark fishing ban began on May 1 and will end on June 30th, so there may be more shark deaths from those who use fishing lines with hooks, like Patria & Progreso. The two month ban on grouper fishing ended on March 31st, which was a difficult time for the fishing cooperative.

There was a high demand for flowers, whose prices and names are given. There is an interview with a young person, FAVP, who said s/he is thankful for the caring love from his/her mother, and s/he responds by being obedient, and helping with cleaning, so that when s/he grows up, s/he will be given a vehicle as a gift. Flowers ranged in price from 10 pesos each to 60 pesos each, and the arrangements ranged from 80 to 350 pesos.
The Isla Mujeres DIF held an event for hundreds of City employees, at the El Pescator tourist site, with raffles.

Concerns about trash
Isla Mujeres abarrotada de basura.. [+] Ver masFull article at this link
There is trash downtown at an empty building on Juarez Avenue, near the Civil Registry office, and the building is not secured, which allows strangers to take refuge there, who generate garbage. There are empty water jugs on Juarez near the intersection with Madero, near an 'abandoned business'. There are concerns that this and similar problems are presenting a poor image to the thousands of tourists who visit Isla Mujeres daily. While the Public Services agency, with their old trucks, strive during the day and night to remove waste from the downtown area, there always seems to be some irresponsible businesses who leave their trash out to be seen in the streets, according to Por Esto.

Turtles begin mating and nesting in May. They can be observed mating offshore from Punta Sur during this month, and they nest along the eastern beaches. Tortugranja staff and volunteers gather the eggs and incubate them in the sand in a pen outside the facility. This is the dry season when farmers burn brush from their milpa-fields on the mainland, and salt was gathered at Salina Grande lake for hundreds of years, until the mid 1900's.
