After approximately two weeks of intense work, the Trash Transfer Facility is now free of garbage, which has been transferred to the landfill in the Continental Zone.  Two thousand tons of rubbish that had accumulated over the past several years  were removed and transferred to the landfill in the Continental Zone. The problem had been complicated by the poor condition of the trash transfer truck when the amount of trash increased during the summer holidays.
According to the Director of Public Services, José Guadalupe Ríos Chalé, on Tuesday the remaining 300 ~tons of garbage were removed in 15 large trucks, in the same number of trips, leaving the Trash Transfer Facility completely free of garbage. He said in the next few days they will proceed to sanitize the facility with lime and they will implement better garbage management.
He said that after the sanitation and adaptation, they will proceed to enable the ramp and a system of management of the garbage, to be able to remove the wastes that are generated daily, and thus avoid accumulation of waste, which has occurred previously.        He said the garbage management project that they intend to activate at the Trash Transfer Facility includes the placement of a geomembrane and a compaction system which will prevents leachate from draining into the subsoil.
This was accomplished with  the support of the union of volqueteros / truck drivers.

Another thief appears to be cheating the action of Justice in Isla Mujeres  LINK

Yadira del Carmen Vega Coral said she was the victim of a burglary in Isla Mujeres but that the delinquent isn't being prosecuted because the police didn't put him at the disposal of the prosecution. She is complaining that the alleged suspect will regain his freedom.
Ms.Vega Coral explained that the event happened around 10:20pm when she surprised the alleged suspect inside her home, which is located downtown, a block from the Town Hall. A search began immediately for the suspect, who had jumped a fence to escape by the house of a neighbor, the pursuit spread for several blocks downtown and in the end the alleged suspect was stopped and handed over to the municipal police.
Ms. Vega Coral said that despite the fact that her family requested that the detainee be registered with the prosecution, this did not happen. She said, "The security guard at the Prosecutors office told me that the police that night had decided not to put anyone under consignación."
On Tuesday, she went to the Prosecutor's Office to file the corresponding complaint, but there she was informed that the complaint couldn't be filed because the suspect was never made available and it was too late on Tuesday, which means that he could only be sanctioned for administrative faults.

It is alleged to be the same suspect in this article about hotel burglaries LINK

City Council member Roberto Martinez Aragon, with the MORENA party, says he has continued to ask the Council and the Mayor to establish urban transport on the island, to provide an alternative to the taxis. He said the response has been that a feasibility study should first be carried out, and he says obviously bids must be obtained. He has also proposed that one of the two DIF buses could be used to transport students, and says the Mayor told him that these vehicles are being used to transport the elderly. He noted that one of them was used to transport writers from the Casa de la Cultura (downtown) to el Pescador (in Sac Bajo).

The port reopened for all boats. Demand for whale shark tours has dropped off, and their season will conclude soon. It is low season with fewer overnight visitors and a moderate amount of people on the beach, mostly foreign and national tourists and minimal numbers of islanders. It is noted that the contracts of hotel workers often conclude at this time of year, and they are usually rehired in the upcoming season. Many companies take advantage of low season in September and October to have remodeling and maintenance done. Business is expected to improve again, somewhat, in mid-November, and rehiring should occur in December.
A plaque was unveiled on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at Colegio Bachilleres in Isla Mujeres regarding a project by Aguakan for the management of ecological orchards (huertos ecologicos).

Local families are complaining that previously there were piers where they could drop a line and catch a few fish for dinner but now the docks have been closed to them, including the small piers at Macax lagoon and the concrete pier controlled by the Port Authority (API). They also want API to clean up the junk next to the ferry terminal, which presents a poor image of the island.
