Due to the effects of Tropical Storm "Franklin", which brought sporadic winds and rains, the cargo ferry company suspended two crossings from Isla Mujeres to Punta Sam and back, and reactivated the crossings at 12:45 p.m.
Crossings were suspended at 5:00am and 7:00am, as a precaution against the effects of the storm that affected the south and central areas of the state. Company personnel explained that the first crossing was made at 12:45 p.m. and another departure was scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
The Harbor Master of the Isla Mujeres Port, Ismael Gonzalez Gil, said it is expected that nautical activities will be back to normal on Wednesday, based on the improvement of the weather conditions

GOVERNMENT OF ISLA MUJERES ENSURES THE SAFETY OF THE ISLAND FAMILIES WITH THE PASSAGE OF "FRANKLIN"
Thanks to coordinated work between all government agencies and sectors of society who are members of the Municipal Civil Protection Committee, the municipality of Isla Mujeres preserved the security and guaranteed the protection of island families' property during the passage of Tropical Storm "Franklin", which only caused moderate rains and winds, so a "saldo blanco" (no incidents) was reported.
The mayor, Juan Carrillo Soberanis, spoke about the importance of the culture of prevention before, during and after a storm as a guarantee to preserve the tranquility of the citizenry. He said, "With any natural phenomenon, prevention is the most important issue. That is why our agencies worked in a coordinated way, ensuring that islanders and tourists were safe during the passage of Tropical Storm Franklin across the Yucatan Peninsula, and although we only had a yellow alert, these tasks are never over. The most important thing for us is that the citizenry and their assets are safe. " These preventative actions included cleaning the storm drains.
Personnel with the Department of Public Security and Municipal Transit Authority and Civil Defense and the Firefighters worked in coordination to ensure the safety of citizens and their property; while personnel from the Public Utilities Department carried out cleaning work on streets and avenues throughout the municipality, on the island and in the Continental Zone. Helman Ulises Berman Graniel, coordinator of Civil Protection and Firefighters, gave assurances that Isla Mujeres is completely out of danger; However, isolated rains and moderat gusts of wind are expected, and he advised the population not to be alarmed, to stay informed through official means and to be attentive to the instructions of governmental agencies.
Removal of a deteriorated lifeguard tower

The Civil Protection Department removed a lifeguard tower for the safety of its personnel and the swimmers, since it was in bad condition, due to age and the effects of weather.
The structure is located in the immediate vicinity of the restaurant "Palapa Leidy" owned by Manuel "El Negro" Alcea. It was removed on Tuesday morning by staff with Civil Protection and with ZOFEMAT (Federal Zone).
Ulises Berman Graniel, coordinator of the Department of Civil Protection, said that recently the lifeguard tower was beginning to give way due to the dynamics of the coast, which, with the passage of time, has caused the tower to practically be in the sea. It is now in the area where the waves break, causing structural damage.

Isla Mujeres dawned with scattered rains and at times with gusts of wind that surpassed 50 kilometers per hour, nevertheless, all services operated normally. The Harbor Master said small boats remained restricted to port and the ferries to Puerto Juarez were operating normally, as were the cargo ferries to Punta Sam. The Harbor Master said no major problems were reported nor any losses of boats or materials after the passage of the Tropical Storm "Franklin". He said that weather conditions will remain stable and could improve after 1p, while the storm continues across the Yucatan peninsula.

After the effects of Tropical Storm Franklin caused decreased sales, shopkeepers are hoping for improvement on Thursday. The fishermen are hoping to be able to go back out on Thursday or Friday. No accidents at sea were reported nor incidents causing loss to tourists. The ferries maintained their crossings as usual and no damages were reported concerning moored boats.

With overcast skies and the threat of rain, the ferries were not full of passengers and fewer tourists came to the island. The 60 medium-sized boats that normally bring visitors from Cancun, which include catamarans, trimarans and monohulls, were mostly inactive. The small tour boats were inactive because boats under 40 feet were restricted to port. The North Beach empty and the yachts that anchor near it were not present. There were a few swimmers at Playa Centro. The dive shops are hoping restrictions will be lifted on Thursday, so they can go out, and the whale shark tour operators are hoping the winds diminish tonight. . Boats over 40 feet may be able to take tourists to Isla Contoy.
There were fewer golf carts visiting the tourist attractions of the island, such as the Tortugranja, Punta Sur, and Hacienda Mundaca.

The storm drains were cleaned on Monday, because trash accumulates in them. This work helped prevent flooding with the passage of Tropical Storm Franklin. Residents are asked not to litter, since that is the main cause of trash blocking the drains. The rains were not very intense and the levels of the salina lakes didn't rise significantly, so the pumps didn't need to be activated. City personnel also pruned trees and removed trash that could potentially be projectiles as prevention work before the storm.

The Navy activated its Plan Marina in the Prevention Phase in response to Tropical Storm Franklin's passage across the states of the Yucatan Peninsula, as well as the states of Tabasco, Veracruz and the southern of part Tamaulipas.The Plan Marina was activated yesterday evening to attend emergencies in Chetumal, in the surrounding areas of Quintana Roo, and along the coast of Yucatan and Campeche.
